北鎌倉・円覚寺境内に時々お出ましになり、人々に愛された看板猫のしいちゃん…惜しまれつつ、昨年5月に天寿を全うしました。この絵はその少し前の冬、境内の日向でうつらうつらするしいちゃんの姿です。墓参の帰りに偶然出会い、その愛くるしさに目が釘付けになりました。記憶の鮮明なうちに描き留めておいて良かったと思いました。
Shii-chan, the idole cat who sometimes appeared at the Engakuji Temple in Kita-Kamakura and was loved by the people, who passed away in May last year.She will be greatly missed. This artwork shows Shii-chan taking nap in the sun, little earlier in the winter. I was happened to meet her on my way home from visiting a grave, and her loveliness caught my eye. I thought it was a good to draw while her memory was still fresh.
