西の自由が、東の美を纏う——。 自由の女神が建てられた1886年、日本は明治・自由民権運動のさなか。 一方、浮世絵が花開いた江戸時代、アメリカは独立し、猛スピードで進化を遂げます。 技術を突き進む国と、内向きに文化を深めた国のクロスオーバー。
 
女神が纏うのは、NY州の州花・バラをあしらった着物。 背景には「江戸時代のアメリカ」が広がります。 今、世界を照らすのは、こんなアートの自由さではないでしょうか。 この情景を映し出すのは、日本神話の地・出雲で人間国宝が漉いた雁皮和紙。 民藝運動（Mingei movement）が称えた「用の美」を宿す伝承の和紙です。

In 1886, when the Statue of Liberty was erected, Japan was in the midst of the Meiji era and the Freedom and People's Rights Movement.
Meanwhile, during the Edo period, when ukiyo-e flourished, America had gained independence and was evolving at a rapid pace.
This is a crossover between a country forging ahead with technology and one that was inward-looking and deepening its culture.

This scene is reflected on gampi washi paper made by a Living National Treasure in Izumo, the land of Japanese mythology.
