This piece is modeled after the white beckoning cat enshrined at Gotokuji Temple in Setagaya. With both hands raised, the smiling beckoning cat is a lucky cat that attracts good fortune, happiness, customers, and money. This beckoning cat, which is popular with people overseas, was created using Japanese mineral pigments, gold leaf, and ink. Just looking at it makes people happy, and I wanted to introduce the culture of Japanese beckoning cats to people overseas, so I chose the beckoning cat as a subject to express the excitement that comes from gathering together a lot of them.
